Nashville Scene: Kix Brooks Joins the Effort to Save Fort Negley Park

Country music legend Kix Brooks posted an impassioned defense of Fort Negley Park to Facebook earlier this week.

For those of us who would like to see a big open park for all citizens to enjoy, we know this chance will never come again.

If we can win this battle we have work to do. We will be responsible for cleaning up the mess and putting our money and effort where our passion for stopping this development this now lies.

We will have to raise the money to tear down the stadium—less than a million dollars—and we will have to raise money to help create the alternative plan for a green space park that is devoted more to history than economic impact.

First, however, we must win what I hope will be the Last Battle of Fort Negley—the fight to save it and to return a very important piece of that site to be the park that was originally intended for the citizens of Nashville.

You should read the whole thing. It’s really terrific. And Brooks seems to be of the same opinion I am, which is that Cloud Hill is a great project with exactly the right people involved and if it were going south of Chestnut Street, I’d be all for it.

And I think Brooks is right that many of us are going to have to put our money where our mouths are if we are able to preserve the park. But there are a few factors that I think weigh positively on our chances.
